Many people think that a financial advisor and a financial planner are one and the same thing. However, being a certified financial planner is a completely different thing. In order to get this designation, there are many things that you have to do.
You don't actually have to have any educational background in order to become a financial advisor. This isn't the case with becoming a certified financial planner. Not only do you have to have an undergraduate degree, but you'll also need at least three years of work experience.
On top of all of this, you will also have to pass a two-day examination to become a certified financial planner. You don't have to go through any of this to call yourself a financial advisor. However, the more education you have, the better you'll be able to serve your clients. That certification will also allow you to charge more money for your services too.
